Jewish Gateway Boards Keeping Kosher Is keeping kosher a necessity in Jewish life today? What issues have we faced when deciding whether to have a kosher home? How has it affected our identity as Jewish women? ![]() ![]() 2781hur - 03:04pm Mar 5, 2004 EST (# 7 of 16)
Keeping kosher isn't just for abiding by ancient laws. Keeping kosher allows us to feel holy every day. We keep a spiritual connection with the mandates of God.

I think the hardest part is to raise your kids kosher and always be on top of them when they are young, especially since mine go to a public school where there non-kosher kids everywhere you turn. But it's the right thing to do and I hope they understand that, all i can do is try my best!
andy - 06:52pm Nov 8, 2004 EST (# 9 of 16) I grew up in a Kosher home
and I married a woman that also believes it's the only way we could raise our kids. I think it's one of the most fundamental concepts in Judaism.

I believe that Kosher is the way to go. It's very important to my Jewish Idenity, though not necessarily as a woman, but as a Jew. Kosher is the way to go!
Elaine - 02:06pm Mar 1, 2006 EST (# 11 of 16) eating kosher
I think this depends on how much you value your faith. Don't just be kosher just because...all your decisions you make should reflect a love of God. Otherwise, it is hypocrital and a waste of your time.
Kendra - 06:08pm Mar 27, 2006 EST (# 12 of 16) Kosher is not a must
I think that those that wish to practice kosher should but not very jewish person I know practices kosher. A lot of jews I know will eat kosher items or will be kosher for certain holidays but will eat what they want the majority of the time.

JessicaJones - 05:18pm Sep 5, 2006 EST (# 14 of 16) not for me

Kendra - 05:52pm Oct 2, 2006 EST (# 15 of 16) Kosher
Keeping Kosher does not make you more "Jewish" but it does allow you to be more in touch with your culture and history.
Danielle - 03:47pm Aug 20, 2008 EST (# 16 of 16) Tradition is worth honoring
Keeping Kosher has its practical benefits - health, etc. But more so, it's a statement of faith and a giving of self. You honor Judaism and the Jewish people through history by making a choice to live a certain way. This outward display of commitment - to others but more importantly to yourself - is a beautiful thing, and it's essential to the practice of any faith.
